Join Australian Landscape Photographers Glenn McKimmin & Luke Hasaart to explore the wondrous wildlife and landscapes of the Australian Snowy Mountains in winter on the Australian Wild Alpine Photo Tour 2024.

TOUR OVERVIEW

The Australian Wild Alpine Photo Tour 2024 is part of the ‘Residency Series’. Based at the amazing Hamilton House, in the middle of winter, you will learn both in the field and in the classroom.

This tour is designed to help you not only get better images in the field but also to give you time with Glenn & Luke  to understand what makes a good image when you get back to the lodge.

A detailed day by day itinerary is listed below, however a few of the highlights of this tour will be chasing the elusive wild brumbies, photographing wildlife such as wombats, echindas and kangaroos.

We will also be a lot of time in the classroom working on image selection, processing and many other elements that will assist you with your photography. This is a full inclusive luxury tour, the accommodation is brilliant, the food will be great and the photographic opportunities will be spectacular.

Tour Plan

1
DAY 1 – AUGUST 6TH – HAMILTON HOUSE
We will meet on Sunday afternoon at the picturesque Hamilton House where you will get settled into your room before joining us for dinner and a discussion about the expectations for the workshop.
2
DAY 2 – AUGUST 7TH – CRACKENBACK & GUTHEGA
We will start the day today with a Sunrise down at a little hut not far from the accommodation. We will return for breakfast and then head to the classroom to hear from Dani and Luke about the things to look for when shooting wildlife. For the afternoon we will travel up to Guthega to hopefully find some wildlife such as wombats in the snow and to photograph more interesting scenes around the Guthega Dam and the surrounding icy mountain streams.
3
DAY 3 – AUGUST 8TH – THREDBO & CASCADE VALLEY
We will head up the road in the morning past Thredbo and into the famous Cascade Valley, home to the legend of Silver brumby and his descendants. We will be in on the search for amazing brumby photos and hopefully find us some brumbies. Other things of interest will be amazing snow gums, the headwater of the Thredbo river and many ice formations. Lunch will be packed and carried with us today. The afternoon we see you have a tiny bit of R&R as the walk can leave you a little tired.
4
DAY 4 – AUGUST 9TH – GEEHI AIRSTRIP
We will travel back past Thredbo and down the Alpine way into some of the most picturesque scenery in Australia. We will travel from 1900m above sea level to 450m at Geehi Airstrip. Geehi offers an amazing panoramic view of the West face of the Main Range. In the foreground will be many Eastern Grey kangaroos with snowy mountain backdrops, touring Mountain ash trees, and crystal clear rivers that curve around the historic Geehi Fishing Huts. For the afternoon we will drive back to the Resort and do some classroom sessions on editing your work and the things to look for in a great wildlife shot.
5
DAY 5 – AUGUST 10TH – LAKE CRACKENBACK
We will spend the majority of the early part of the day walking about the Hamilton House surrounds looking for Wildlife to practice what we have been learning during the Tour. We will do another classroom session before finishing with a sunset shoot.
6
DAY 6 – AUGUST 11TH – HOME
It is time to say our goodbyes and head off to our respective homes and hopefully time to review the incredible images you were able to capture.
