Join Glenn McKimmin for this adventure into far western Mongolia where you will live like a nomadic eagle hunter for 10 glorious days.

TOUR OVERVIEW

Enjoy first-hand contact with the nomadic Eagle Hunters of the remote but spectacular Altai Mountains of Mongolia. We will be staying in traditional Kazakh gers (yurts) as welcome guests of the rugged, unique nomadic herders who proudly maintain ancient traditions including the use of eagles for hunting and sport.

The Eagle Hunter families are now few in number and decreasing with time. Fotoworkshops are privileged to know some of these families and share with you their warm hospitality, born from hardship and love of life in the extremes of nature.

We will explore different landscapes including steppe grasslands, rivers, lakes, snow-capped mountain ranges, multi-coloured hills and craggy clifftops which will provide dramatic settings for our photography. Our eagle hunter friends are happy to share their enthusiasm and oblige us with opportunities to capture iconic images.

Our accommodation and transport are the best available. The gers are spacious, cosy-warm and colourfully traditional. We will travel in modern SUVs with each person having a window and ample space for gear. All meals are provided and usually prepared by our nomad hosts. Your Fotoworkshops mentor and local English-speaking guides are on hand 24/7.

Apart from eagle hunting, we will also witness traditional archers, musicians and nomadic pastoralists with herds of horses, yaks, camels, goats and sheep. Most of our time will be spent with Kazakh people who are a small but significant cultural group in the remote west of Mongolia.

Portraits of our obliging Kazakh hosts, landscapes, macro studies, night photography, action/sports and cultural documentaries are some of the photographic opportunities that are amply available throughout this expedition.
